Iginla, Budaj, And Hossa Named NHL's 'Three Stars' For The Week

Calgary Flames right wing Jarome Iginla, Colorado Avalanche goaltender Peter Budaj and Detroit Red Wings right wing Marian Hossa have been named the NHL's 'Three Stars' for the week ending October 26. FIRST STAR - JAROME IGINLA, RW, CALGARY FLAMES Iginla led all scorers with seven points (five goals, two assists) in three games as the Flames recorded three wins for the week. He began the week by scoring a goal in a 2-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on Oct. 21. On Oct. 23, he notched a hat-trick in a 5-3 win over the Nashville Predators. He finished the week by notching one goal and two assists in a 4-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Oct. 25. The seven-point week brings Iginla's season total to 10 (6-4--10), tied for 15th in overall NHL scoring. SECOND STAR - PETER BUDAJ, G, COLORADO AVALANCHE Budaj posted a 3-0-0 record with a 1.62 goals-against average and .941 save percentage as the Avalanche recorded three victories for the week. He stopped 26 of 29 shots in a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 20 and made 25 saves in a 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 23. On Oct. 25, he stopped 29 shots through overtime and three of five shootout attempts as Colorado defeated the Buffalo Sabres, 2-1, in a shootout. THIRD STAR - MARIAN HOSSA, RW, DETROIT RED WINGS Hossa tied for second among all scorers with six points (three goals, three assists) in three games as the Red Wings recorded three victories for the week. Hossa began the week by recording one assist in a 4-3 win over the St Louis Blues on Oct 22. On Oct. 24, he notched two goals and one assist as Detroit defeated the Atlanta Thrashers, 5-3. He finished the week by tallying one goal and one assist, as well as the shootout winner, in a 6-5 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 25. Hossa is tied for sixth in League scoring with 11 points (4-7--11) in eight games.

Sabres' Vanek Named NHL 'First Star'

Sabres' left-winger Thomas Vanek was named NHL first star of the week Monday, according to a report by the Canadian Press. He picked up eight points in four games last week, helping Buffalo to a 3-0-1 record over the stretch. Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom was named second star, and Stars' rookie left-winger Fabian Brunnstrom was the third star.

Canucks' forward Daniel Sedin was named the NHL?s first star of the week Monday, as reported by the Canadian Press. Sedin had two goals and three assists in two games as the Canucks opened the season by defeating the Flames twice. David Booth of the Panthers was named the second star after registering three goals and an assist in two game. Martin Brodeur of the Devils earned the third star.

Drury Named 25th Captain In Rangers History

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that center Chris Drury has been named the 25th Captain in team history. "Chris Drury is a natural leader who possesses all of the qualities and characteristics we desire from our Captain," Sather said. "He has always been known as a clutch performer and a winner. Chris leads by example with his tireless work ethic on and off the ice, and is extremely deserving of this honor." Drury, 32, is entering his 10th season in the NHL and second with the Rangers. He was originally selected by the Quebec Nordiques as their third round choice, 72nd overall, in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. In 1998-99, he won the Calder Trophy as the league?s top rookie after finishing the season third among first-year players with 20 goals. He recorded a career-best 47 assists in 1999-00, and established career-highs with 37 goals and 69 points during the 2006-07 season. Drury tallied 11 goals during the 2001 playoffs, second-most in the league, to help the Colorado Avalanche capture the Stanley Cup Championship. Prior to turning professional, Drury won the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey?s top player in 1998, and led Boston University (HE) to the 1995 NCAA Men?s Ice Hockey National Championship. A two-time Olympian (2002 and 2006), Drury was a member of the United States squad that won the Silver Medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics at Salt Lake City, Utah. In addition, the Trumbull, Connecticut native competed in the 1989 Little League World Series for his hometown and was the winning pitcher in the championship clinching game against Taiwan.
